The curtain falls*

On Friday the Daily News laid off television critic David Kronke, leaving the paper with a single entertainment writer in the run-up to the Oscars. Today that lone entertainment writer, Greg Hernandez, was himself laid off. LA Observed confirms the news.

*Updated Feb. 24, 9:37 a.m.: Hernandez's farewell blog is here. He says he was "officially" told he was being laid off on Monday, but I'm told he may have learned earlier and decided to devote himself to the weekend's Oscar coverage despite it all. In the post, Hernandez says he will continue his Out In Hollywood blog "as a private enterprise with fresh content later this week (details to come)."

PS: There are literally a ton of messages for greg, so once again the great minds of LANG working overtime (MOFOS!) to ruin the papers as fast as possible. If they put as much effort into making a viable product people wanted as they do in firing people, this would be the greatest group ever.

Wow. LANG's treachery never stops amazing me. The poor guy worked his ass off covering the Oscars on Sunday night and this is how they repay him?

Actually, the Daily News is on the cutting edge. The DN -- and the rest of LANG with it -- is trying to become the first newspaper(s) not to cover the news.

Actually, Gary, it's OUT IN HOLLYWOOD...

Good lord, what a bizarre mistake! Thanks for pointing it out - I've corrected the blog and made an appointment with a psychiatrist.

Hope Greg finds a different name for his blog since this one is already taken.

If they are allowing him to "keep" the blog and keep on blogging, they are just cheating him because it will still be in the insidesocal.com website which they own and will never relinquish. Listen Greg, you will only be working for free for them if u continue that blog. If I was u, I would let it die and start my own one, with a nicer name to kick their ass all around. They will only exploit you as they get the many hits needed to make their ad revenue go up. They dont pay nobody extra for those blogs so PhukEm Greg!

Yes, they will not give Greg free server space. But since the blog will NOT be hosted at insidesocal, that really doesn't matter. He's going to move it somewhere else.

This was actually a very generous move by LANG, and that's something I never believed I'd be writing.

Good for you Greg, and thanks to whomever it was at MediaNews that made the decision to do the right thing.

oh come on, only generous because it benefits them. no class, never had, never will.

This is all smoke and mirrors by LANG A-wholes. ANyone can have a blog of the same name ANYWHERE else, including here on blogger.com. These Phukn douches said he can take the blog, but in reality, they are doing nothing for Greg or anyone else except themselves. If they link to any other site, they wont get the hits, so "giving the blog" to Greg means nothing. There could be 1 million Out in Hollywood blogs out there, as long as they are hosted on different sites. The only website with that nameis already taken, so... What is LANG really giving Greg? The boot and that's it. My best to you Greg.
