"Transformation" another way of saying "You're fired"

ABC News plans to cut several hundred jobs in its news division, first through buyouts and then layoffs if necessary. ABC News president Drew Westin has recast the shrinking payroll as a "fundamental transformation" of the news division.

Westin said it was important for ABC to seize the moment as an opportunity to redefine how it operates. Instead of maintaining expensive gold-plated bureaus dotted around the globe, ABC now relies on digital journalists in eight foreign countries who can record footage themselves or work in concert with a crew on assignment. It has added several digital national reporters as well.

I hope they're the right eight countries.

Name change

Readers will notice I've removed the moniker 'Reporter G' from the header and replaced it with my boring name, Gary Scott. Why? Because I was never really comfortable with Reporter G, having chosen it many years ago when blogs were mysterious things to most people. But, as with race car beds and Hot Wheels, all things must pass.

As my legion of fans swells into the double digits, and my blog gets linked to on a semi-regular basis, I'd rather be less cheeky and more direct with new readers - at least until I come up with a more interesting name. Until then, I'll keep the blog address the same and don't mind if others choose to use Reporter G for old time's sake.

Transformation

Barack Obama is in a fight to transform politics in America. But first he'll have to transform the Democratic Party. How successful he'll be remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, John McCain appears to have done it on the right. His win in Florida combined with the fading candidacy of Mike Huckabee and the total rejection of Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo appear to have broken the death grip held by evangelicals and anti-immigrant nuts. At least on the national level anyway. We'll see if it trickles down.
