Other LANG layoffs

In addition to the seven people who lost jobs in LANG's San Gabriel Valley group, I'm told the Los Angeles Daily News cut a position in its circulation department, and three or more newsroom staffers at the Long Beach Press-Telegram were laid off. I believe the PT layoffs are part of a consolidation plan announced in April, but I'm still awaiting details.

The legendary Frank Burlison was axed in Long Beach. And yet Doug Krikorian keeps his job. F*** LANG.

Gary, you said 7 people were laid off/got rid of, whatever. BUT, a few others just quick or left outright recently, so the impact is much deeper than what the numbers say.

4 reporters left in PAS, 3 in WHIT, how many at TRIB? Those aren't community papers, they are the starved versions of what these papers used to be. Wonder how long they'll circle the drain until they close for good?

for above post: quick = quit

How long do these people running the Titanic Star News-Tribune-Daily News think they can fool their readers? ONE page of local news and the rest of the rag filled with wire stories and sister-papers stuff. No wonder they are going down faster than a $2 hooker getting a $5 bill.

Haven't we been saying LANG has been circling the drain for five, six years now? Really, just board it up and sell the buildings and go buy the Register and run it into the ground like all the other LANG papers have been slaughtered. Pink slips, salary cuts and ruining people's lives, it's what Lean Dean does. It's like crack cocaine to him. He can never get enough of it.

They have been circling the drain for years but the last three plus have been brutal. there is no recovery for this group. where will it come from? increased revenue? come on now. with circ going down, delivery issues, no local coverage of any substance, shrinking revenues, it is in the drain death spiral.

i think singleton should buy the dodgers. they are in bankruptcy. they have a losing record. an owner who doesn't have a clue. nah, the dodger organization can have hope, singleton's has none.

Sad day when Frank Burlison, who actually did cover sporting events, gets fired but ass-kissing Doug Kirkorian keeps his overpaid job?

LANG, you are even worse than I thought.

WOW, another shock. More layoffs in Langland. I'm sure the brilliant management force will band together to avert more pain. Clearly some new advertising scheme is in the works that will actually have sales people make calls, circulation deliver the paper, and where local coverage will abound.

People are getting fired, less coverage, and badly edited stories. Next thing you know the PT will raise its daily price.

I wonder what "positive" spin MNG/LANG gave to the staffers who were not given the shaft.

Burlison being let go is a sad day for sports journalism Southern Cal. Hopefully the Times or Register will grab this true talent.

Well, if he goes to the Register, he'll be back under Lean Dean in a couple of months -- probably to get axed again.

I didn't realize the Daily News still had a circulation Department. Now with the firing they have gone from one to zero.

So every paper in LANG has been hit by layoffs in June except the Daily Bulletin? Is this correct?

What were the cuts in San Bernardino and Redlands?

RE: Daily Bulletin, three of the names that were cut from the Trib were Daily Bulletin folks (Sloan, Lee, Witucki). Obviously coulda been more that hasn't gotten out yet... And I'd be surprised at any from Sun with the union thing hanging over them. They're also expecting to lose two bodies soon (one leaving, one retiring).

is anyone surprised at continued layoffs from this bankrupt company?

Does anyone really expect them to right the ship?

The shock would be that they start conducting business in a proper manner as well as communicate honestly with employees and readers. It really isn't that hard for most.
