Comings and goings

*Downtown News reporter Anna Scott has taken a job with the Los Angeles Daily Journal. She's set to start there March 1.

*Frank Girardot, metro editor for the three-paper San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group, will take over as editor of the Pasadena Star-News. Here's part of the memo:
This is a homecoming for Frank. He worked at the Star-News for many years in the 1990s, so he knows the community well. He's just the man we need in Pasadena to be the public face of the Star-News and ensure the community regards the Star-News as its indispensable source of local news. City Editor Hector Gonzalez and the entire editorial staff of the Star-News will report to Frank.
*San Gabriel Valley Tribune reporter Rebecca Kimitch was promoted to political editor for the paper.

*Pasadena Star-News reporter Alfred Lee has accepted a job with the Los Angeles Business Journal.

gary, isn't that your old job? that they eliminated after you left? and now is back for unknown reasons?

oh wait, the reason is to keep the ratio of editors to reporters at 2:1. gotta stay top-heavy!

and yes, I just commented on my own post.

I was politics editor for SGVN. I don't know if the job responsibilities are the same.

Seems a lot top heavy on management in Pasadena. Not a lot of local news covered or written. I am wondering why they have a management team there at all.

This dude Frank covered pasadena in the 90s and so he knows the area? He lives some 50 miles away from there. He has not stepped foot in that town in DECADES! Wow, never thought 10 to 20 years away made you "an insider."

Plus THE PUBLIC FACE OF THE STAR NEWS is LARRY WILSON! Poor sap, he is on his way out, the writing on the wall is there. He's got no office anymore in star news. If the paper is doing fine there with Hector, why move this , in my opinion, big time a-wipe there???

They do this to those who they want to get rid of so they quit and if they don't, steve lambert, in my opinion, will find a way to fire Wilson.

I am no nostradamus, but this will happen!

So any guesses as to who will be City Editor at the San Gabriel Valley Tribune?

Anonymous said...

come on now, you really think they need one?

More crude, anonymous name calling 12:48 PM. Either write like an adult or identify yourself.

Wait ... huh? Is Girardot replacing someone, or are they just adding a new layer of "management" in Pasadena? And who will be replacing him? Or are they leaving the position open (like it's been ever since he took it)?

I am not 12:48, but, believe an opinion that you agree or disagree with posted here is ok. I am also assuming that 12:48 has some reason, real or imagined for the name calling and might be right. Other than poor sap, I don't see any name calling that is of a serious nature. If you look at these posts regarding this newspaper group, there are quite a number of people who would agree with 12:48 with a much stronger choice of words.

I am not 12:48 either, but it boggles the mind that so many juvenile comments are posted here. I suppose it's indicative of the caliber of current and former LANG journalists.

Anonymous said...

you can count the current number of lang journalists very quickly...i go for former.

and, they are right.

Name calling is a short cut to thinking. More importantly, it changes nothing.

Mr. Scott,

You are correct in your psychological assessment of name-callers. It leads to nothing. I must also note that simply because someone cannot formulate their feelings in a more mature and sophisticated manner, it is not indicative that they do not have a point. In the new age of media, just read the many opinion writers who use average to less-than-average language on a daily basis. I will not name specific editors, but just look at all the LANG opinions and columnists and we can see how others write just as poorly as they do.

Just because someone resorts to name-calling doesn't mean they represent the kind of people who currently work for or used to work for LANG.
How do you even draw such a conclusion? You are tarring everyone with a broad brush.

Anonymous said...

That is an unbiased fair opinion, probably like the articles he/she use to write. However, most of the name calling to the senior managers at lang are deserved.

Anonymous said...

yes, they are running the paper into the ground and destroying the morale of their staff while covering their own incompetent *sses.

I am no fan of Steve Lambert, but asking anyone to do what is right for his employees and not protecting his own job is unrealistic.

These days in particular, there are very few idealists in foxholes. If you're not looking out for yourself, you might spend years out of work, especially at Lambert's age.

Of course he is protecting his own job first. That's only human.

Not an unfair point of view, but, with one big exception. Lambert was doing this long before the latest two to three year purge. No excuse for his behavior then.

And, to me the question remains...exactly what is he bringing to the table?

LANG banger said...

4:11, what does he bring to the table?

The exact same thing Renfield brought Dracula -- total and unthinking obedience.

seems to fit the mold on their entire executive group.
