Antelope Valley Press could face class-action lawsuit
A San Diego law firm is putting together a class-action lawsuit against Antelope Valley Newspapers Inc., owner of the Antelope Valley Press, alleging employees were forced to work through meal and rest breaks. On its website, Emge & Associates says it has filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court. The firm appears to be looking for potential class members.

rest breaks? in journalism? and do you wish you had a buck for every meal you ate at your desk?
We took care of this problem years ago at SGV when one of the copy editors reminded management she was diabetic and was under doctor's orders to eat
Place is a dump. I'm a glad someone is finally taking a stand against them. There were rampant abuses going on there and I understand they haven't changed how they do things.
What? Take a break from the decline? Not me. I'll eat my PB&J from my desk thank you very much.

I worked there for a short time and I witnessed many empoyee abuses regarding breaks, lunches, personal items on desks,etc. People have manager or director titles but are not allowed to make ANY decisions without consultation. If you do make a decision it will be the wrong one no matter what you decide and you will pay for it. You job is simply to "execute" directives.
What about independent contracters ? Does the law suit include the contracters?
