More layoffs at PE*

I'm told the Riverside Press-Enterprise is expected to absorb more layoffs tomorrow. No word on how many pink slips might go out. The P-E started the cuts in early March under an edict from parent-company AH Belo.

*Updated, 4/15: Here are some of the journalists who were laid off today:

Julie Farren, reporter
John Berry, reporter
Hilary Cable, copy editor
Doug Seino, Web producer

At this point, for some of us, it is worse 4:43 a.m. Working for LANG, working for Belo, working for the Tribune. No offense 4:43 a.m. but your comment irked me. And it is because I'm affected. I'm exhausted by all of this. When is this going to end?

the layoffs did start last night (tuesday). so far, none of them make sense. and no warning either.

Any names yet?

Nothing in the selections have ever made sense. It's like the top brass are out of touch with what resources they have at their disposal.

Gina T, sorry my comment irked you. I have been irked by LANG's inability for years now. As I mentioned in a months ago comment, when LANG does something like a layoff the comments come fast and furious with great venom...more so than others by a wide margin. There is a lot of pent up angst among workers because of poor management and it keeps getting worse. I feel bad for any worker who gets laid off especially when a lot of the carnage could have been prevented and those who were responsible for a great deal of it are still drawing their pay. You aren't alone in being exhausted and the sad part of it all is it isn't over.

Thank you for saying this. And I didn't want to react angrily. I was just frustrated. It's true that LANG has made a lot of people angry. I used to work for LANG so I understand the sentiment. When I read the comment, I think I was in a "hurry up and tell us if we're going to be hit" mode. For now, it seems my loved on was spared from the ax. I say for now ...

My heart goes out to all those people who were let go today. I hate what is happening. I absolutely hate it.

rumor today, too was that dallas is considering closing the PE. so let's see who's left standing next month. maybe maria and her boyfriends will have to learn how to put out a paper, not just walk around with their noses in the air.
