Any word about cuts at the Daily Breeze?
what fools to let Petix go!
Mark Petix was one of the best reporters and most stylish writers they had, as anyone there will tell you.
Just another example of getting rid of older, highly paid people.
Ugh!
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Those of you still hired, how about writing a story about how much of a pain in the @ss collecting uneployment benefits is? Seriously, it's worst than begging....
Older doesn't mean better. You should see our Septuagenarian editors at the Press-Telegram
Older people can be much worse. They can be playing out the string, have less energy or be set in their ways and not want to change.
But at many papers, the ones who have been there a while are the ones who know the area and provide whatever institutional memory the paper has.
Maybe 70s are too old; it's a different story at a union paper. But you can't have a real newspaper when everyone is 12 years old.
You could start with the no talent publisher who still commutes from Arizona.
Didn't the HR honcho say no more layoffs?
In Long Beach, the older generation defines "playing out the string."
Start with the Managing Editor (and his high chair). Then the main sports columnist (and his high chair). Continue with the oblivious main front-page columnist.
All the young talent is getting whacked, while Archbold - excuse me, Archcapitulate - makes speeches aboput how the newspaper will be around for 100 years.
I'll be happy if it's around as a newspaper for 100 more DAYS.
I'll be adding Office Space to my Netflix Queue.
