Hard fall

Southern California newspapers shed at least 143 editorial jobs since Oct. 1. The largest paper, the Los Angeles Times, cut the largest number, 75; the Orange County Register cut 30, the Ventura County Star 17, the Press-Enterprise nine, the LA Weekly six, the L.A. Daily News five, and the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group one.

And more cuts are to come... the Times is expected to trim its D.C. bureau mid Novmeber and the Desert Sun of Palm Springs is expected to lose people before the end of the year as part of a Gannett-wide cutback.
