Everybody saves face.
What do you think the 'sighs' of 2000 and 'scowls' of 2004 will be in 2008?
Obama needs to avoid "ums" and digressions. McCain needs to be sure he doesn't mistake Shia for Sunni and doesn't smile at the end of some sharp verbal attack.
That being said, I think the financial crisis will preclude most of the snarky analysis from sticking. Sighs only matter when voters feel pretty good. When people feel anxious, they listen to the answers.
