Party in Denver

Dean Singleton's Denver Post is sponsoring a party to open the Democratic National Convention and it's going to cost the penny pinching company a pretty penny. Mark Lacter has some of the details over at LA Biz Observed.

Wow he seems so concerned with money.

I supposse it could be worse. He could be sponsoring a party for the Republicans...

I assume he'll have a party in St. Paul as well, where he owns another hometown paper.

I think the sale of the Connecticut paper is only on paper. Hurst owns it be he runs it, like the Breeze, MediaNews operates it.

I might be wrong.

Did you get your e-vite to the Denver party? One went out to every current and former employee. We're car pooling from LANG, looking for a central location. Maybe the unemployment office in Van Nuys, near the 405. Freeway close to Denver.

Oh yes I heard about that, we all drive there in shifts, at 37 cents a mile and blogging all the way, when we all get there we only have one ticket and we share it with the OC Register.

OK, it's an emerging plan, subject to changes in gasoline price, EBITDA, Obama's choice of VP and other events. We'll meet at Jerry's famous deli in woodland hills and caravan to Denver for the big party. Anyone without an e-vite can stop by LA City Hall and pick up a bag of trash left over from Bastille Day.

Regarding the e vite to Denver for all present and FORMER employees........you are going to need a bigger car!

No MN-sponsored party in St. Paul, according to MinnPost.com: "Traditionally, a local news operation — often the biggest daily — sponsors the 15,000-person fete, providing the veneer that we’re being fed, liquored and entertained by one of own. But such is the joy of out-of-town ownership and a cratering ad climate: Neither the Star Tribune nor Pioneer Press forked over the dough to become the Minneapolis affair’s named sponsor...PiPress owner Media News Group is co-sponsoring the 2008 Democratic National Convention media party, even though its Denver Post is a lot closer to failing than the local property. The difference? Media News is headquartered in Denver, not St. Paul."

Amazing that there's one and a half million buckaroos handy to blow out on a big bash in Denver but (the claim is) there's little in the kitty for raises to give to what's left of the staff still working our asses off out here.

OK, St. Paul is out then. But we will car-pool-and-crash Denver. If we get turned away from the MNG party, we can party with arrested dissident dems and WTO opponents at the Denver barbed wire gulag down the street from the convention. And please: Bring your garbage bags leftover from Bastille Day.

Done ! I'll bring a small hose for gas refills along the way and we can use the cans from Bastille Day to get top ramin for energy.
The WTO plans sound like the best, our smell will make us blend in with the natives. God I hope Hillary get the nomination, it would be the icing on the cake, if we could get a piece of cake.

Viva La France!!

Allons ! Enfants de la Patrie !
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie,
L'étendard sanglant est levé ! (Bis)
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats ?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes.
Aux armes, citoyens !
